According to Statistics Canada, more than 65,000 new electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles were registered in the first nine months of 2021.

It is an impressive milestone and NAPA Canada intends to collaborate on this new trend through the NexDrive program, a network of auto centres for the next generation of vehicles.

What Is the NexDrive Program?

The Nexdrive program first emerged in Europe, in the Benelux region, a grouping of Belgium, Luxembourg and the Netherlands. This is an initiative of Alliance Automotive Group, which is a major stakeholder in the distribution of parts for cars and heavy trucks. Alliance Automotive Group is part of the larger NAPA family, which is owned by the Genuine Parts Company (GPC), like UAP (NAPA) in Canada.

The program aims to raise awareness and reassure owners of hybrid and electric vehicles of the ability for mechanics to repair these types of vehicles. The objective of the project is to adequately train technicians to give them the expertise they need to carry out the maintenance and repair of a hybrid or electric vehicle, while respecting high industry standards.

NexDrive Certification

Based on continuous training using cutting edge technology, NexDrive certification offers customers the assurance that work done on their hybrid or electric vehicles meets manufacturer standards and the conditions of the original warranty.

Mechanic auto centres that want to obtain NexDrive certification must meet well-established criteria:

  • Have accredited technical training
  • Have the proper equipment and tools
  • Comply with safety standards
  • Carry out regular inspections
  • Have parts supplied by a certified NAPA store

The objective of the NexDrive certification is to provide quality service to customers, and to safely carry out the specialized work required for electric and hybrid vehicles. So that technicians with certification have the knowledge, tools and software necessary to optimally maintain a hybrid or electric vehicle, regardless of the make.

“It’s a great challenge, because everything has to be created. Of course, there are some marketing basics, but now we have to make sure the program works. The most important thing is to ensure the effectiveness of the NexDrive program. It will be necessary to reach our target customers and give them the right information. But we are ready!” noted Yves Racette, Director of Program Development at NexDrive.
